You close your eyes And imagine Love at first sight But all you find Your hands are tied They do what they want to you Want to you. More on Genius.
Whiskers can be very long in some species; the length of a chinchilla's whiskers can be more than a third of its body length (see image). Even in species with shorter whiskers, they can be very prominent appendages (see images). Thus, whilst whiskers certainly could be described as "proximal sensors" in contrast to, say, eyes, they offer a tactile sense with a sensing range that is functionally very significant. Dorothy Souza, in her book Look What Whiskers Can Do reports some whisker movement during prey capture (in cats, in this case): "Whiskers bend forward as the cat pounces. Teeth grasp the mouse tightly around its neck.
Newly-minted LP from Philadelphia's long-tenured, unclassifiable STRAPPING FIELDHANDS. Recorded during the same session that produced the "Impossible To Say" single on Richie Records some years back, Alluvium Trinkets is the result of the Fieldhands being holed up deep underground on the south side of town for the cold months, stocked with resurrected instruments, archaic recording gear, affordably-priced beer, and BOB MALLOY's trademark sense of melody & arrangement. Released on the Fieldhands own Omphalos Records
Strapping Fieldhands have recorded for Shangri-La and Philly's own Siltbreeze (who released, among other things, 1994's Jersey-Devil-themed, In The Pineys 10''). Drummer Jeff Werner runs the group's label, Omphalos Records, while Jacy Webster (vocals and guitar) owns the Philadelphia Record Exchange. The Fieldhands proper are currently on hiatus, but they do have loose plans to reform in the near future. In the meantime, they've been working on a side project called Sparrow Steeple. -via Jason Sigal at WFMU's Beware of the Blog).
