One of Bobby Hutcherson's best albums, Stick-Up! was also his first official release not to feature drummer Joe Chambers, who was a major part of Hutcherson's outside leanings. Instead, Stick-Up! stakes out the middle ground between hard bop and the avant-garde, offering a set of structured yet advanced modal pieces indebted particularly to Coltrane.

Vibraphone master Bobby Hutcherson's 1966 release Stick-Up! is probably the jazz giant's most straightforward, swinging hard-bop album of the '60s. While the heads of the tunes occasionally take a knotty turn, as on "Black Circle" and "Blues Mind Matter," even the most complex cuts on the record quickly give themselves over to a visceral, steadily grooving feel and plenty of bop-based licks from pianist McCoy Tyner and sax man Joe Henderson.
Stick-Up! is an album by jazz vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, released on the Blue Note label in 1968. The album is Hutcherson's first without drummer Joe Chambers. Billy Higgins took over on drums on the recording session. This recording also features Joe Henderson, which is the first recorded meeting of the vibrist and pianist McCoy Tyner. Five of the six tracks are Hutcherson compositions, with the exception being Ornette Coleman's "Una Muy Bonita".
