American Country Countdown launched on October 6, 1973 with host Don Bowman. The longest-tenured host in ACC history is Bob Kingsley who took over the program beginning with the May 6, 1978 show. Kingsley's ACC run lasted 27 years, ending with the December 17, 2005 show. Kix Brooks has been the program's current host since January 21, 2006. Just like American Top 40, ACC used the Billboard chart from its' beginning and continued to use Billboard for over 35 years until they switched to the Mediabase spin-based chart starting with the August 15, 2009 show
