Secondly, The Decayes were cool because they anticipated another trend, lo-fi, by about 15 years, except that their version of lo-fi was unique. What they did was to make lo-res home-recordings on 2-track reel-to-reels, then take those off to a posh studio for mixing and mastering. The result? Lo-res music, hi-res (analogue) hiss. With the group’s last album released way back in 1983, it came as a huge surprise that a new album was imminent. It turns out that Aquarium features a very different-sounding version of The Decayes, and really, that’s not surprising. For one, the only original member still in the main lineup is Ron Kane, the group’s driving force from the beginning but now assuming the role of musical director/aesthetic guru, and downplaying his attributes.

American (Long Beach, California based) psychedelic rock band formed in the mid 1970s by Paul Sakrison and Ron Kane as a duo, fleshing-out to a full band later and gradually shifting to an indie-rock post new-wave type sound.

The last Decayes album, Ten Guitars (1983) was only released in New Zealand, and Jayrem boss James Moss can still be heard quietly complaining that it was the worst selling item in his catalogue. Kane turned up in New Zealand in early January 1983, intending to get his latest album pressed here, but finding all the pressing plants closed. Moss agreed to take on the project, and I have to confess that I played a small part in it: helping to design the cover. As for The Decayes, after Ten Guitars the group fell apart, but in January 2014 a reformed version of the group released a brand new album, Aquarium. Ron Kane, a great friend to New Zealand music, passed away on 30 November 2017. Gary Steel, who was a friend for over 30 years, has written a moving tribute at the Witchdoctor site.

The Aquarium is an album by The Aquarium, released in 2006 on the Dischord records label. Can't Afford To Live Here" – 3:39. Waiting For The Girl" – 3:07. Golden Pyramid" – 1:19. Through The Tunnel" – 2:22. Aquarium Dream" – 3:50. Jason Hutto – Electric piano, keyboard, vocals. Laura Harris – Drums. Brendan Canty - Mixing.

Aquarium is the debut studio album by Danish-Norwegian band Aqua. The album was released in Scandinavia on March 26, 1997 and in the United States on September 9, 1997. Although the group had been together for three years under their original name Joyspeed, their only release under that name was a single called "Itzy Bitsy Spider". The album is best known for including the successful singles "Barbie Girl", "Doctor Jones" and "Turn Back Time", the first of those being a huge hit across the globe

Note: Even though the inside gatefold cover gives songwriting credit for "Spacer," that track does not seem to appear on this disc. Song titles appear in Japanese, so perhaps one of the translations is incorrect.
