K7 Few artists have crafted a catalog as rich and deep as Donato Dozzy has done in minimal techno’s more atmospheric realm. The Italian producer-who also performs in the excellent Voices From The Lake duo with Neel-has become revered for his unerring ability to create tracks that are at once ethereal and oceanic, inducing both a sense of tranquility and urgency

Donato Dozzy - K It'd be unfair to say that Donato Dozzy only plays deep, hypnotic techno that favors a slower tempo. Indeed, the only time I've ever seen him DJ in person, the BPM never fell below 13. But it's clear that the Italian producer has a deep, abiding love for music that gives you room to dream.

Dozzy off his normal beaten path in this record. I dont know for sure why the album is called "K", but after sitting through it a dozen times or more, one could possibly conclude that its designed for fans of this letter of the alphabet. But I dont want to unfairly attribute the inspiration of the sounds contained within to some substance because this release is so much more than that.

28 February ·. Dear followers, A little consideration about the buzz that has been created by a Spazio Disponibile post on plagiarism and sampling, in the morning. I saw that my buddy, Neel, has been quite put under pressure, many people thinks that he is the one behind this post. That is not correct, it was me writing it. It was me, again, writing a private mail to the Beat Movement guys, asking to clarify the situation and getting no answer. After that, i decided to proceed to a public.

Donato Dozzy (real last name: Scaramuzzi) learned to DJ in the early '80s, and initially spun genres such as dub reggae and Italo-disco. He started a DJ residency at Roman club Brancaleone in 1999, and joined a band called the Kitchen Tools in 2001. Dozzy's first solo album, K, was released by Further Records in 2010. The following year, Dozzy and Neel (Giuseppe Tillieci) launched their Voices from the Lake project with a performance at Labyrinth, as well as the Silent Drops EP, issued by Prologue. The duo's self-titled debut followed in 2012, and was instantly hailed as a classic; Resident Advisor named it the best album of the year.

Over the past few years, Dozzy has been one of the chief characters at the Saturday night events at Brancaleone, one of Italy’s most celebrated clubs and a key promoter of underground music in Rome. He played a leading role at the microhouse night, together with some of the best DJs on the international scene, serving up DJ and laptop performances of great emotional impact, offering a microtrancey journey across the spectrum of electronic music.

His debut album, K, which Further Records originally issued in 2010, stands as a towering example of Dozzy’s skill for electronic music that triggers profound feelings with only a few scrupulously selected elements. K’s seven untitled tracks offer a masterly seminar in subtly altering the grid-like beat programming that dominates techno. Dozzy puts odd emphases on certain beats and adds percussive eccentricities and effects to others. This reissue of K reminds us that it remains a crucial component of Donato Dozzy's catalog, the first major statement in a career that's becoming a manifesto of understated, underground-techno brilliance. released August 1, 2010 (bandcamp). I love this record so much. Would love to find more stuff similar. Gas comes to mind, anyone have other suggestions for similar music?
Mullador
Good albums to check out from Yagya are Sleepygirls, Rigning, and Will I Dream During the Process. Similar effect.

Try Donato Dozzy & Tin Man - Acid Test 03. The track 'In bed' is similar to his work on K. You should also check out Acid Test 09, from the same duo. The track Test 03 is great. Also, listen to S.T. by Donato Dozzy. This track also appears, in a reworked version, on the excellent Voices from the Lake album. Enjoy!
Raniconne
try Alessandro Corsini - Risveglio... maybe you like that as well ;)

In regards to the music, it is incredibly deep and thoughtful. Maximum effectiveness from a relatively small bank of sounds. I've said this in previous reviews and ask the risk of harping it, this track sounds like New York at 5am. Remember watching the first Batman movie, and feeling enthralled by the environment that they created with Gotham City? Somehow it was larger than life and the sun never shone. Well I've been in clubs in New York that felt like Gotham. Late night and I remember a few times looking around and feeling like at some point I had exited reality. What is this place and why are all these strangers congregating in this dark room listening to a never ending kick drum. Its so nonsensical but yet it makes perfect sense. Claim your spot on the dancefloor and time to fly away. Those same vibes that New York creates live out their existence within the grooves of this record. The beats on this release make me fall out of my tree dead sober. Dozzy focused on the bass work and my lord, does he kill us with the darkness. Interlaced with this menacing darkness are breaks in the clouds if you will, not exactly sunshine, but at some points you will find relief from the otherwise relentless torrent of bass that this album rains down. When I first got this in the mail last fall I was very tempted to write a review but I knew this was something special, and I knew that this album deserved more than a knee-jerk first time hearing it type review. This album is techno in the highest form. Its an emotional experience. If you want to hit zen state start with track D2 and B1 to get you warmed up. You'll end up in places you never knew existed. This album is just so so good. I'm trying not to geek while I write this. Others need to experience this.

I think the name "K" is an initial of a loved one. And sources close to Dozzy (mnmlssg guys as far as I remember) have emphasised that it's not about drugs.

In reference to the quotation on the cover art. The term comes from line 462 of Book I of The Aeneid, an epic poem written in Latin by Virgil, one of Rome's most distinguished poets, in the first century BC. Aeneas, while crying, says, "sunt lacrimae rerum et mentem mortalia tangunt" as he gazes at one of the murals found in a Carthaginian temple, which depicts battles of the Trojan War and deaths of his friends and countrymen. Translated this says, "These are tears for events and mortal things (sufferings) touch the soul." As he stands there, Aeneas is overcome by the futility of warfare and waste of human life. The burden man has to bear, ever present frailty and suffering, is what would define the essence of human experience (provided by wikipedia)
