Joseph Vernon "Big Joe" Turner Jr. (May 18, 1911 – November 24, 1985) was an American blues shouter from Kansas City, Missouri. According to songwriter Doc Pomus, "Rock and roll would have never happened without hi. His greatest fame was due to his rock-and-roll recordings in the 1950s, particularly "Shake, Rattle and Roll", but his career as a performer endured from the 1920s into the 1980s.

My Joe Turner cd was/is a 2002 release by Atlantic Recording and Rhino Entertainment as distributed by Collectibles Records. Nice touch to an album so authentic it 'feels' like a live recording. One person found this helpful. Joe Turner is Kansas City Jazz and Blues personified. This is a great combination of tunes, classic blues, rock and up-tempo swing. The musicians are tremendous, with Frank Wess and Pete Johnson, among others.
