Redirected from El Pintor (Interpol album)). El Pintor is the fifth studio album by the American rock band Interpol.

On Interpol's first album in four years-and first without Carlos D-there’s nothing that touches the band’s creative peak, but it's still a step up from their 2010 self-titled record. El Pintor’s best songs could hang with Interpol’s strongest deep cuts. On Interpol's first album in four years-and first without Carlos D-there’s nothing that touches the band’s creative peak, but it's still a step up from their 2010 self-titled record. When Interpol went out on their first tour behind their 2002 album Turn on the Bright Lights, Guided by Voices’ Robert Pollard imparted some prophetic advice for drummer Sam Fogarino at an Ohio stop: Don’t sell more than 50,000 records or you’re in trouble.

Interpol's debut album Turn on the Bright Lights (2002) was critically acclaimed, making it to tenth position on the NME's list of top albums in 2002 and number one on Pitchfork Media's Top 50 Albums of 2002. Subsequent records Antics (2004) and Our Love to Admire (2007) brought greater critical and commercial success. The band released its fourth, self-titled album on September 7, 2010. They went on hiatus from 2011 through 2012 while they focused on other projects. Their fifth studio album El Pintor was released on September 9, 2014

El Pintor is Interpol's shortest album, and its music is the closest to the ideal form of the band's sound: Kessler's guitar swings between prodding, angular lines and dreamy washes; Fogarino provides crisp punctuation; and Banks' tative baritone gives more form to abstract lyrics such as "There is a slope like an appetite" (Banks also steps in for. Dengler, and does an able, if slightly less distinctive, job). Throughout the album, the trio, joined by Secret Machines' Brandon Curtis, delivers archetypal examples of many of its sounds.

This may be an Urban Outfitters Exclusive release, but I got my red vinyl copy at the Hastings Book Store “going out of business” sale for $8.99 still sealed. So I don’t know if they bought some from Urban Outfitters or someone brought it into the store to sell or trade this copy as Hastings use to buy books, CDs, etc.

This pressing does not sound bad, but it doesn't sounds good. It is just ok.
Usaxma
Precisely how I feel about this Album! It’s nowhere near as good as their previous releases, but the line up isn’t the same either. They originally reminded me of a newer version of Joy Division, but that faded quickly.

Barcode on mine ends with 761812 instead of 741812.

I gave this great album one star because the copy I aquired still had the cuttings hanging from the grooves. Poor pressing. I literally had to pull the remains of the cuttings out of the grooves. Cleaned on my VPI and inspected under a halogen light. Don't need to buy a new stylus over a $15.00 album. Side two has some issues and still has some cuttings that will not come out. Never play this copy. The white copy of this great album sounds the best out of the three colors. Anyone else get a copy like this?
Daigrel
mine also came in the non-limited edition cover...

my red copy on soft limit came in non-limited edition cover with barcode 5 414939 741913

I bought this record today. Opened it and there was a copy of Guns n' Roses - Appetite for Destruction in it. I could not believe it. Did this happen to anyone else?

Went back to the same store today and returned it. There were 3 more copies with the same G n' R album in them.

This LP is a straight line down the path of general mediocrity.A few songs such as "Anywhere" and "My Blue Supreme" are exceptional, but the album as a whole stifles. The production has a very narrow sound stage and the sonic dynamics are missing. Also, it is to be noted that all of the bass lines are boring, and superficial. What ever drove the previous bass player from leaving the band, should be rectified so that sonic art prevails over ego. A long wait for pretty much nothing...
Nekora
In your opinion of course!! one two three four five

It has the same issues as all Matador vinyl pressings. The quality is god awful and they sound like shit. It sounds a lot better on CD.
Gann
isn't the colored vinyl white?
Mala
Agreed. There are three color variations. However my red copy was purchased from Hastings Books store “going out of business sale.” So I don’t know if they bought a few from Urban Outfitters, there was some corporate relationship, or it was bought from someone by Hastings. They use to either buy Books, CDs, etc for cash or store credit. I own a few Urban Outfitters exclusive releases and they are always poorly shipped. I’ve even requested they remove the inner and vinyl from the sleeve and they refuse to do so, same thing with Amazon.com. Amazon is actually the worst as far a seam splitting. I purchased “Bob Mould - Workbook 25” and it had about an inch and a half of missing spine on the Cover, sent it back and got it from Acoustic Audio. Bad mailers, refusal to remove the inner sleeve and vinyl from the cover, and throwing the packages, results is nasty seam splits, so I don’t buy from either anymore. I generally purchase my online vinyl from Acoustic Audio, that actually recommends the vinyl is shipped outside the sleeve or from Music Direct. If it’s an older album I try to get the Japanese pressings as the Japanese culture takes much better care of thier stuff than we Americans do. Of the 600+ Japanese pressings, they are all as mint as a used LP can be with the exception of about five. They are also the first ones to ever ship me an LP outside of the cover. The Red Vinyl has the OLE-1069-1 number like all the USA Matador pressings!
Oparae
You are absolutely correct. I have all three versions and I got them all from a local record store, that is now closed. They came from “Hastings”, and the red copy ruined my stylus as it still had strings of vinyl in the grooves!
Xirmiu
There are 2 copies. A red & a white. The red is an urban outfitters exclusive. (could only buy in urban outfitters locations + off their website)

While I like the fact that Urban Outfitters is selling some really unique colored vinyl, every "Exclusive Item", like this Lp and a few others have all arrived with terrible seam splits. I have bought 3 and all had nasty seam splitting. I've even asked that they ship the vinyl outside of the outer sleeve, but they never do. Unfortunately there isn't a retail store close to me. This album is so screwed up anyway. I bought a limited Red vinyl edition sealed and sticked that it was limited Red Vinyl. It turned out to be the plain black copy. Took it back and they would not do a return. I bought another sealed album from another source, same as described above, it is also black as well. It's the worst copy I have as the vinyl has this white mold like residue on both sides and the "B" side still had strands of vinyl still attached , so it's ruined. Tried cleaning with my VPI and still has moldy looking residue, not to mention the skipping on the "B" side. I tested this as well as all my nearly purchased vinyl on a older sony turntable first before trying to play them on my high end model. The Sony is actually nice as it has a fairly pricey cartridge, but I payed $1,200 for my high end systems cartridge. Last thing I want or need to do is ruin that one with a $20.00 crappy pressing of a not so great vinyl album. The White pressing I have is the best sounding one of the three I own.
Ceroelyu
Something is wrong here. I've got the red one but the barcode is the same like the one of the "black" vinyl.
Went Tyu
The limited white vinyl pressing is domestic via Matador.
betelgeuze
This is another limited ed.
Goltikree
There are three versions, a white one, a red one and the normal black one.
Zymbl
Ne_Mags isn't the colored vinyl white? Urban Outfitters is selling a Red Vinyl as well :)Check it out: http://bit.ly/1BZnE2w
